General
A game server is what you connect to every time you join an online game. The server is stored on the host's machine, which can be very close, or very far away from your current location. The distance between you and the game server directly affects how well you will ping to that server. A voice server is what you connect to every time you join Ventrilo, Teamspeak, or the many other voice chat programs out there. The server is stored on the host's machine, which can be very close, or very far away from your current location. The distance between you and the host's machine will affect your ping to the server, however a higher ping does not affect you nearly as much with a voice server as it would on a game server. Please see our server pricing page which lists every game/voice server that we currently offer. We plan on hosting every new popular game as soon as possible after launch. Additionally, to accommodate the community of gamers who prefer older games, we are usually more than happy to support any games that we don't currently upon e-mail request. When you purchase a server from Xtreme Cybergames, you get the following:
Why is renting a server from you better than playing on a server that already exists, or hosting my own server?
Renting a game server from us is better than playing on an already-existing server that you do not own, because you get full control over your game server with us. You can put whatever type of mod you want on it. You can set the gametype to whatever you prefer, whenever you want to. You can kick people who are being rude or disruptive. Also, you get many other benefits from renting a server from us, such as the ability to compete in our online tournaments with prizes. Renting a server from us is a much better solution than hosting your own server. When you host your own server, you're limiting the fun people can have on it if you're running anything less than a T1 connection, as most cable and DSL providers out there are unstable and unpredictable, and don't have the bandwidth to support massive fragging. Also, depending on how good your computer is, you may experience lag due to either limited computer hardware, or from your computer not being entirely clean. Not only will we be running your server on a network with almost unlimited bandwidth, but we will have the computer hardware to match. All of our servers are using Windows Server 2003, which is far more stable and server-oriented than Windows XP. We also continuously monitor the bandwidth/hardware usage of all our computers, to ensure that none are underperforming. Another benefit to renting a game server from us is our unmatched level of customer support, ranging from helping you out with a simple task all the way to installing any mod you ask us to install. Servers
A private server must be password-protected all the time, whereas with a public server you gain the luxury of being able to set a password, or take one off. Public servers typically have more people connecting to it because anyone who sees the server in the server browser may try to join. Every time someone joins, it uses up more bandwidth, which means it costs us more to be able to maintain public servers. Private servers, on the other hand, cannot be easily accessed, unless you know the proper information. Because of this, private servers are generally less costly for us to maintain, and thus are cheaper for our customers. When you purchase one of our game servers or voice servers, you will receive complete administrative access over that one server (or multiple servers, depending on how many of our servers you have purchased). With our game servers, you will be able to modify files that pertain to the game you have chosen via our FTP site. You'll also be able to add mods, stop, start, and restart servers. We'll give you nearly complete access to your server's command line so you can change whatever you want that's within reason. With our voice servers, you'll be able to do things such as add/remove channels, kick/ban people, enable/disable binds, mute people, mute channels, and much more. Please check our site in the near future for information on our dedicated servers, which will let you take complete control of a computer, and add as many games or servers as that computer can handle, without having to worry about anyone else hogging your bandwidth. Your server is in good hands. All of our servers are running on state-of-the-art computers with room to grow. All of our servers have at least a Dual Intel Xeon 5160 (2x Dual-Core CPUs), 4GB of the fastest ram, and 10,000RPM hard-drives. Our network is provided by Peer 1 -- the global experts of Internet Infrastructure Solutions. Peer1 has partnered with over 500 networks, and four Tier 1 providers, to provide a consistent, low-latency experience. Being partnered with such a large number of providers allows for our network to remain up and stable even if one or more of our providers goes down. Our network is also smart enough to route you through our network using the most optimal path, ensuring a low-ping, smooth connection to your game server or voice server of choice. In addition, you won't have to worry about your game server or voice server going down if one of our datacenters have a power outage, as if that happens our diesal generators will power on immediately and you'll have a completely uninterrupted service. What this means for you, our valued member, is: 100% guaranteed network uptime, sophisticated routing to ensure the lowest ping possible, 0% packetloss from our network, and the secure feeling of knowing that your server(s) will be taken care of. Almost all new servers should be up within 15-30 minutes during normal working hours (9 am until midnight pacific time Monday through Friday and 12pm until midnight pacific time Saturday and Sunday). During those times we are constantly monitoring any new orders that come in so that we can ensure a quick and smooth server setup. We're one of the only companies in the business that can claim to have your server up within minutes of ordering, so you're taken care of even if you have a match just moments away. Before purchasing a server, there are a few things that you may wish to consider: -How does the price of this server compare to the price of another server hosting company? -How do you and your friends ping to the server? If it's under 80, then that's usually pretty good for a game server. Under 100 is considered pretty good for a voice server. -How much customer support do they offer? Do they sound like a knowledgeable group of individuals that will actually be able to help me when the time comes? You should always look for a company that has many forms of communication open. -Do they offer anything else to their customers that peaks my interest? Tournaments and other special offers are a good example. Being gamers ourselves, we realize how important consistent uptime is. Because of this, we've taken extra steps to ensure that all of our servers will be up and available 24/7, except for our rare server restarts to ensure maximum performance (which will always be done in the middle of the night, and won't take long). In the unusual circumstance that one of our systems fail, we will immediately move your server to another machine free of charge. You're currently limited to using 4GB or less of space, and everything in your FTP must be related to your server. That amount of space should be ample for hosting as many mods/maps as you want. Tournaments
We will support the most popular competitive tournament games first and foremost. We may also occasionally run tournaments for other games depending on member interest. Most of the time anyone will be welcome, however we may run the occasional member-only tournament. It depends on the tournament. We try to avoid this as much as possible, but some tournaments may have an entry fee associated with them. Our goal is to have some sort of prize for every tournament. As we gain more interest in our events, we will begin to increase our prizes accordingly. Ultimately we want attract casual and professional gamers alike to our events, and offering more prizes only fuels their motivation to play their best, and deliver the ultimate spectator experience. Payment
For information on our pricing, please head over to our Server Pricing Page. We currently accept Credit Cards, Paypal, Credit/Debit Cards (using PayPal), and eChecks (using PayPal). Setup may take longer if eChecks are used, as this method of payment is the slowest of all of our accepted methods. Because we are using PayPal, we will not hold any of your credit card information. Credit Card and PayPal payments should be almost immediate, however eChecks have been known to take some time. Cancellation
If you wish to cancel your subscription to Xtreme Cybergames, please login and go to the Members' Zone. Click on "Account Management". From there, you will need to click on the "Cancel Subscription" link. Once you confirm that you want to cancel, we will handle the rest. An alternate method of cancelling is to go directly to www.PayPal.com, login, and cancel your subscription directly from there. If you look at the Terms of Service for many of the top Game and Voice Server Hosting companies, you'll notice that most of them offer little or no refunds so they can "lock" their customer in. We're not like that -- we always want to give you a choice. Xtreme Cybergames handles all refunds; no work on your behalf is required. To receive a refund for the time you have left with us, all you need to do is cancel your server(s) through us up to seven (7) days before the next billing period. Refunds are only eligable for people who are on a 3 or 12-month subscription plan, or for people who are still within the first 7 days of ordering. What happens to my money if I paid for a 3 or 12 month period and wish to cancel before the period is over?
If you purchased our 3 or 12 month package (netting you a 5% or 15% discount, respectively), and wish to cancel before your period is over, you will be refunded 75% of what it costs for your remaining months. This means that if you purchased a server for 12 months and must quit after the first month because something came up, we'll refund you 75% of the cost of our services for the period of time that you have not used. This means that you will face a penalty which is 25% of the cost of the remaining months that you have left with us, which isn't much considering the discount you're already getting for our services if you are on a 3 or 12 month plan. We realize that things come up that you might not have expected, and that is why it's our goal to make it as painless as possible to cancel your subscription if needed. Support
We believe that an open approach to communicating with our customers is critical. If you are in need of support, you have many options to get in touch with us: you can contact us via e-mail (support@xtremecybergames.com, and sales@xtremecybergames.com, IRC (IRC.GameSurge.net #XtremeCybergames) and on AIM (XTCSupport). Yes we do. Just e-mail us at support@xtremecybergames.com with the mod you wish to have installed as well as any other details pertaining to the mod, and we will install it for you. If it's not a common mod then please include the URL for us to download the mod so we can install it for you. We certainly do. Please provide us with the name of game you need patched, the patch version, and (if possible) a place to download the patch from, and we will handle the rest. Just contact our support e-mail address, or get in touch with us via AIM or IRC. If your server crashes, then the best course of action would be to login to the Members' Zone and Stop/Start, or Restart the server. If the problem is not resolved, then please contact support@xtremecybergames.com. Please contact us at support@xtremecybergames.com. If you know which file is missing, then we would be happy to replace that file immediately. If you don't know which file(s) are missing, then we will restore your FTP back to its' original state. You may be suffering from the dreaded safe mode error. To see if you are, connect to your FTP and go into the main folder that has your .exe file. If there is a file for CoD called _codmp, _cod2mp_s for CoD2, or _iw3mp for CoD4 (that is the entire file name, and it has no extensions), then you are infact suffering from the aforementioned problem. In order to fix it, simply delete the file. Make sure you can see hidden files, as those files are hidden. If you don't see the filename mentioned above, then you are not having this problem, and you may wish to contact us directly for support. If deleting the file does not fix the problem, please contact us at support@xtremecybergames.com. To change your Webadmin username/password for UT2004, go to your System folder and open XAdmin.ini. That file contains both your username and password to login to Webadmin. My Webadmin username/password combination is not working even though it's clearly defined in XAdmin.ini!
Please make sure that the following setting is set in your UT2004.ini file under [Engine.GameInfo]: AccessControlClass=XAdmin.AccessControlIni If that setting is set to anything else, it will not call upon the XAdmin.ini file and your username/password won't work. First, run a command window (if you are using Windows, go to start->run and type "cmd" without the quotes). Change to your ut2004 system folder and type "ucc compress ..\maps\<mapname.ut2>" without the quotes. That command will generate a <mapname.ut2.uz2>. Upload this file to your redirect area, and you're done. Voice Servers
To login to TeamSpeak with admin rights, you'll need to first load up the client. Click on "Connect". Right click in the main window and click "Add Server". Specify a nickname for it. Then, go to the right and enter the IP address into the "Server Address" part. To login as an admin, you must specify the correct login name/password, under "Login Name", and "User Password". You should then have full admin rights after that. To login to Ventrilo with admin rights, simply connect to the server you wish to join by clicking the "->" button to the right of "Server". Enter the host name/IP address, then specify the port number, and possibly the password if the server requires one. Once inside the server, you will need to right click your name, click on "Server Admin", then "Login". Specify the login password, and you'll be all set with admin rights. About Xtreme Cybergames
Xtreme Cybergames was created by Chris "xTc`" Westmacott, and Rick "Wildspark" Westmacott. We chose to go into this field because of a few reasons. Our main driving force is that we absolutely love everything that has to do with gaming. This gives us the motivation to come into work every day happy and determined to improve our services as much as possible. Another reason we decided to go into this field is because of the lack of genuine server hosting companies in general. Not only that, but it's the quality of server hosting companies out there that also has us seeking to better the customer's experience -- the options out there right now are simply not good enough, and we feel that we could do a much better job. We believe that we stand out from the competition due to a few reasons. Unlike almost all other game server providers out there, our aim is to provide services beyond our quality game servers and unsurpassable customer support. By integrating our high-performance game servers with our professional online tournaments, we hope to facilitate the growth of e-Sports. Is there anything not here that should be? Contact Us and we will consider adding it in. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
